This morning, a 7.2 magnitude quake shook the south western peninsula of Haiti. This lasted tremor was more powerful than the 2010 earthquake quake that killed hundreds of thousands. So far, there are only a few dozen of official deaths, but that number is sure to grow. If you want to donate to charities directly involved with disaster recovery, we suggest donating to Mercy Corp or Catholic Charities. The quake struck just over a month since the killing of President Jovenel Moïse, the government is still in chaos so the recovery will be slow and sporadic.
We have not made contact with the whole BonZeb team in Haiti, so keep them in your prayers. We heard from Fanfan that his family home was destroyed. We want to raise funds to re-house Fanfan’s mother as soon as possible. As tropical storm Grace bears down on the Caribbean, heavy rain could turn a disaster into a catastrophe. We want to care for everyone we are able to and your donation can help.
Update: according to local sources the death toll is closer to 250 and thousands are injured. Hospitals in the south are overwhelmed and in desperate need of food, water, and medicine. We are filling a shipping container with supplies as soon as possible, so please reach out if you can donate food, first aid items, etc.
