Adding to our current stock of congo beans, pistachios, peanuts, tapioca, and sweet potatoes; we've recently planted a crop of sugarcane. The BonZeb farm in Bernaco acts as a test for local farmers. If we can grow it on our plot, sugarcane could be a viable crop for the nearby farmers.
In order to move sugar cane stalks up to our property, we hired a donkey train. Buying our own would cast about $2000. But would also be shared with other local farms. The water pump and plow BonZeb purchased in the past is used on four dozen local farmers in and around Bernaco.
These same implements would be useful further up the hillside in Boucantiste. The cost to bring a plow to our workers is $3,000 and the water pump and piping is $2,000. The tree nursery also comes at an expense of approximately $3,000. Our wish list is $10,000 and our ongoing need is $26,000. It seems like so little to help employ, feed, and improve the lives of 500 individuals.
